Steve Hiller is the radio host of the Unlocking the Bible Daily Broadcast and lead producer and video editor of the ministry. He is a fan of all-things-Superman, has two children, and works part-time on Moody Radio, stepping in for other show hosts now and again.
Steve agreed to share with us why he works for Unlocking the Bible and what he considers to be the most notable parts of his job as a producer and radio host:
Transcript: Hi, this is Steve Hiller and, most of the time when you hear my voice, I’m introducing Pastor Colin on the Unlocking the Bible radio program. I was asked to do an audio blog, talking a little bit about what it’s like to work with Pastor Colin and to work with Unlocking the Bible. And as I began thinking about this, really there were three words that came to mind: privilege, joy, and best.
See, it really is a privilege for me to get to spend my day producing media that’s all about Jesus, all about the gospel, this incredible life-changing message. To think about the fact that that is how I get to support my family and spend my time, it really is a tremendous privilege.
The second word that comes to mind is “joy.” As I sit in the studio with Colin and as we talk about our radio programs, as I sit at the editor and I’m chopping up messages or producing video or whatever that may be, I really feel I’m doing what God has wired me to do. And after that come emails, letters, phone calls, people talking about how the message they’ve heard, how the gospel they’ve been hearing about, is making a difference in their life.
And then when we get that letter, that email, or that phone call, where a person says, “I want to become a Christian. I want to begin this relationship with Jesus.” They give their life to him…I don’t know if there’s a greater joy than that. And that is a huge privilege to be a part of that.
Secondly when I think about joy, I think about working with Pastor Colin and the Unlocking the Bible team. There’s been an incredible team of people that’ve been assembled – it’s not a big team – but a great team of people around this ministry, and it’s a great joy to work with them.
Finally, the joy of counting Pastor Colin, not just as a co-worker or boss, but as a friend. He’s counseled me through some of the toughest seasons of my life, and I remember the joy that it was to introduce him to my wife, to sit in his office and ask, “Would you marry us?” and then months later, standing at the church with my wife, Suzy, and Pastor Colin, as we were married was an incredible joy.
And that brings me to the final word: “Best.” I got into radio in high school, worked in country radio in college, then began working in Christian radio, and spent 15 years in Chicago working as a DJ and talk show host. There are a lot of pretty cool perks that come with being a personality on the radio, from concerts to free stuff. But I have to say, for the reasons I’ve been talking about, this is the best job I’ve ever had.
So for those of you who are regular listeners, prayer partners, giving partners, thank you for what you do in allowing me to share the gospel with others. I really count it a joy, a privilege, and the best way I could spend my time.
