“Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone?” Matthew 7:9 (NIV)

A small loaf of brown bread can look pretty much like a stone. There will be times when what God has allowed in your life looks like a stone. Your boss calls you into the office on a Friday afternoon, and you are terminated. That sure looks like a stone. Your husband or wife has just been diagnosed with cancer. That looks an awful lot like a stone.

Look at your life and you will see a lot of things that God has allowed, and they look just like a stone. Your natural reaction when you see what looks like a stone is to say, “What use is this in my life?” That’s a natural reaction. But knowing that God is your Father will give you an entirely different perspective in evaluating your life.

Remember, God can turn a stone into bread. Our Lord would not do that for His own comfort, but He will do it for your good.

It is a marvelous thing to be able to look at the difficulties of your life and to say, “Some of this looks like a stone, but my life is in the hand of a loving Father and nothing comes to me apart from His sovereign hand, and therefore, I see bread in this difficulty. God will use even this to fulfill His purpose in me.

When God has become your Father through the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ then you have a whole new perspective in evaluating your life.

Does anything in your life look like a stone right now? Could you evaluate it differently? How so?
