Ask for Something Bigger

April 1, 2020

“Lord, let me recover my sight.” Luke 18:41

Bartimaeus’ story shows how God opens the door of hope for broken lives. Notice the pattern—believe, ask, receive: 1) Bartimaeus believes in Jesus. 2) His faith leads him to a specific kind of asking, and 3) as a result, he receives a wonderful gift that changes his life.

Some of us believe, but we’re not receiving, and we wonder why. If this is you, it could be that the missing ingredient in your life is asking. Once you identify what you want Jesus to do for you, your walk with Him will move to a whole new level.

Maybe you’re thinking, “Well, I’ve asked many times, and God hasn’t given it to me.” If that’s the case, ask for something bigger. Paul asked the Lord to take away his thorn in the flesh. God didn’t do that. He did something bigger. He proved that His grace is sufficient and His power is made perfect in weakness.

Job suffered a great loss, and he asked God for an explanation. God didn’t give him that; He gave him something bigger. Job caught a glimpse of the awesome glory of God in such a way that he said, “I had heard of you by the hearing of the ear, but now my eye sees you… [I] repent in dust and ashes” (Job 42:5-6).

In the garden, Jesus asked His Father, “If it be possible, let this cup pass from me” (Mat. 26:39). God didn’t do that; He did something bigger. He used Jesus’ suffering to save the world.

What transformations might take place in your life if you really began to pray?
