Notice, Christian, the Bible tells us some things that have already happened to you (past tense):

1. You are a new creation. If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come (2 Cor. 5:17, NIV)!

Paul doesn’t say, “If anyone is in Christ, he’s becoming a new creation.” He says, “If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation, the old has gone, the new has come.” There is no process.

2. You have been crucified. I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me (Gal. 2:20).

Paul says this has happened, and it didn’t just happen to him; it’s true of every believer. It’s a done deal. This is the truth about you as a believer.

3. You have been raised. Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God (Col. 3:1-3).

This has already happened to you! If you are a believer, you have been raised with Christ. You died and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. There is something for us to do, but the way you set your heart on things above is by taking in the first part of the verse.

4. Your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit. Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God (1 Cor. 6:19)?

If you are in Christ, the Holy Spirit lives with you and in you. His presence gives you power, and that makes the Christian life possible for you.

Thank God for all that he has already done in your life, if you are a Christian today.
