Pray continually… 1 Thessalonians 5:16, NIV When Paul says “pray continually” he is not suggesting that we give up our jobs to pray on a full-time basis. In fact, he warned the folks who gave up their jobs against doing this. He is talking about an open-ended, warm, and loving...
What are the rock-solid commitments that Jesus Christ has made to us?
1. He is willing to reconcile you to God
“Come to me all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest” (Mat. 11:28). This is the promise of forgiveness. Jesus says, “I will give you rest.” That means He will reconcile you to the Father and He will cleanse you from all unrighteousness.
2. He will never drive you away
“All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never drive away” (John 6:37). This is the promise of security. Christ will never tire of you. He will never give up on you. You were in the Father’s heart before the world began. Christ died to save you and He lives to keep you.
3. He will make you useful
“Follow me … and I will make you fishers of men” (Mat. 4:19). This is the promise of purpose. When you come to Christ, your little life gets caught up in the sweep of God’s redeeming purpose for the world. Christ will use you in the lives of others. Jesus said, “As the Father has sent me, so I am sending you.”
4. He will give you the Holy Spirit
“I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever—the Spirit of truth.… I will not leave you as orphans. I will come to you” (John 14:16, 18). This is the promise of power. We need the instructions. We need to know what God calls us to do, but the bigger thing is that we need the power to do it. That is what Christ promises to give us!
