Pray continually… 1 Thessalonians 5:16, NIV

When Paul says “pray continually” he is not suggesting that we give up our jobs to pray on a full-time basis. In fact, he warned the folks who gave up their jobs against doing this. He is talking about an open-ended, warm, and loving walk with the Lord.

Think about a healthy marriage. Good communication is a mark of a healthy marriage. Do happily married people talk with their spouses every day? Normally, yes. Do they talk at the same time every day? Not necessarily.

A married couple’s communication isn’t limited to the times that they sit down and talk. Good communication between a couple can happen though a glance, a knowing look, the squeeze of a hand, the times when she starts a sentence and he finishes it. These are wonderful moments when you look at each other and both know what the other is thinking without saying a word.

Think about your relationship with God like that. Praying continually means sharing everything in your life with the Lord. Knowing that He is constantly at work, that what happens in your life is not random chance, it is His gracious providence. This includes the people you meet, the opportunities that open for you, and the challenges that you face. They all come to you from His hand. Talk with Him about them. Realize that you are sharing your whole life with another person. Ask for His help. Recognize His activity. Share your joy with Him.

Is there anything here that could add warmth to your relationship with the Lord?
