These are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name. John 20:31

When you see and believe that Jesus is the Son of God, you will be able to respond to this great truth.

Seeing his love, you will trust him. “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16).

The Father giving the Son, and the Son leaving the Father’s side to enter our world, is supreme proof of the love of God for you. God did not give you up for his Son. He gave up his Son for you! When you know that you are loved by God, you will be able to trust him.

Seeing his authority, you will obey him. “A cloud overshadowed them, and a voice came out of the cloud, ‘This is my beloved Son; listen to him’” (Mark 9:7). This is the voice of the Father speaking to the inner circle of disciples. One thing we can learn from this is that it is possible to be in some sense a follower of Jesus and not really listen to him.

The truth is that so much of your life in this world is beyond your control. Think about the peace and confidence that would be yours if you could truly say, “I live under the authority of the Son of God, who is the sovereign Lord of the universe.” You would be able to go into the world with all of its danger and uncertainty with confidence—which is exactly what he calls you to do.

Which do you see more clearly today, the authority or the love of the Son of God?
