“When they persecute you in one town, flee to the next.” Matthew 10:23

There are times when fleeing is the right thing to do. On another occasion a crowd in the temple took up stones to stone Jesus, and the Bible says, “Jesus hid himself” (John 8:59).

When we face situations of difficulty and danger, we always have a choice: Should I stay or should I go? If someone is pointing a javelin at you, there’s a pretty good case for running to the hills!

We all know that there are times when change is appropriate. We also face times when we know that God is calling us to persevere, and what we need is the strength to do so. Psalm 11 is for these times. It’s about how to pray when you feel like giving up.

Notice how David responds to the well-meaning advice of his friends: “In the Lord I take refuge; how can you say to my soul, ‘Flee like a bird to your mountain?’” (11:1). How can you say to me “if the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do?” (11:3).

Do you feel like giving up in some area of your life? How are you praying? What are you asking God to do?
