A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity. Proverbs 17:17

How can you be a true friend? By your presence, your words, and your love? If you are to become that kind of friend to others, you need to walk with someone who can be that kind of friend to you.

The Lord Jesus Christ is the best friend you can ever have. “A man of many companions may come to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother” (Prov. 18:24).

A true friend is present, and Jesus will always be with you.
In fact, Jesus says, “Whoever comes to me I will never cast out” (John 6:37), and “I am with you always” (Matt. 28:20). No one else can say that to you. In every adversity, in life and in death, Jesus is the friend who will always be with you.

A true friend brings sweet counsel, and the words of Jesus are sweet.
When others were abandoning Jesus, He asked His disciples: “Do you want to go away too?” Peter said, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life” (John 6:70). The words of Jesus are like oil and perfume that make the heart glad. They are sweeter than honey from the honeycomb (Psa. 19:10).

A true friend loves at all times, and the love of Jesus will never let you go.
Jesus loved you before the world began, and He will love you forever: “I have loved you with an everlasting love” (Jer. 31:3). His love is everlasting—it has no beginning, and it will never end!

Do you think of Jesus as your best friend? Perhaps you have difficulty thinking of Him in such a way. But He is indeed that, if you believe in Him. Meditate on the friendship of Jesus today.
