“We have found him of whom Moses in the Law and also the prophets wrote.” John 1:45

If you come and take an honest look at Jesus, what will you find?

The Old Testament is a book of promises. Everything in it points to something else.

The law cries out for someone who will fulfill it.

The sacrifices speak of a life that will be laid down to deal with sin.

If you read the prophets, you will find yourself saying, “Where will we find the person who can bring about all that God has promised?”

If you read the history of the kings, you find yourself saying, “We need a better king than this!”

If you read the history of the shepherds of Israel, it will leave you saying, “Where will we find a shepherd who cares for the flock more than he cares for himself?”

Continue reading in the New Testament, and we find Jesus saying, “I have come to fulfill the law and the prophets. All that they promised will be fulfilled in and through me. I am the good shepherd who lays down his life for the sheep.” If you read to the end of the New Testament, you see Jesus exalted and worshipped by people from all nations as King of kings and Lord of lords.

Jesus says that the Scriptures “bear witness about me” (5:39). He came into the world to do what all the other prophets, priests, and kings could only point to, but no other prophet, priest, or king could ever do.

Have you found the One that Moses in the Law and also the prophets wrote? If so, what kind of response has that provoked in you?
