Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.” Romans 12:19

1. Who you admire

Let not your heart envy sinners, but continue in the fear of the Lord (Prov. 23:17).

There is no greater tragedy than to be raised in a Christian home and then to throw it all away. The first sign of throwing it away is that you envy sinners. In your heart you look at people who live without God and you say, “That’s what I want to be like! That’s how I want to live.”

2. How you decide

Surely there is a future, and your hope will not be cut off (Prov. 23:18).

The life God is giving you right now comes in two unequal parts: a very short life in this world and a very long life in eternity. The Bible uses pictures to explain: “What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes” (Jas. 4:14). We are here today and gone tomorrow. Then we will stand before the judgment seat of Christ. Don’t plan your life on what makes you feel good now. Plan your life on what will make you feel good then.

3. Where you invest

Buy truth, and do not sell it; buy wisdom, instruction, and understanding (Prov. 23:23).

How costly will it be to stand for the truth? It might cost you friends, opportunities, or even your life. On any other investment, you would look at the price and weigh your options. But the price for truth is never too high. The truth has supreme value because it has eternal value. So, buy the truth! Make it your own.

Is your heart beginning to wander in any of these ways?
