You Are to Live Every Day in the Light of Eternity

October 20, 2019

Live your lives as strangers here in reverent fear. 1 Peter 1:17 (NIV)

The movie Gods and Generals tells the story of “Stonewall” Jackson and the American Civil War. Jackson was given the nickname “Stonewall” because of his extraordinary courage on the battlefield.

There is a scene in the movie where one of Jackson’s men asks him, “General, how is it that you can keep so serene with a storm of shells and bullets raining about your head?”

Jackson says, “My religious belief teaches me to feel as safe in battle as in bed. God has fixed the time for my death. I do not concern myself with that, but always to be ready whenever it may overtake me. That is the way all men should live. Then all men would be equally brave.”

It really matters that you live in a way that is pleasing to God because as soon as your short journey through this world is over, you will stand before the Father in heaven. And you will see the face of the Son of God who loved you and gave himself for you.

Learn to live every day in the light of that awesome reality. The wonderful thing is that when you do that, you will be delivered from every other kind of fear.

Are you living in the light of the awesome reality of the judgment of God and seeing your Savior face-to-face?
