You Have More than the Power of Positive Thinking

October 16, 2019

Therefore, prepare your minds for action. 1 Peter 1:13 (NIV)

Do you believe that the Holy Spirit lives in you? If you are unclear about the answer to this question, then you will never know victory over temptation.

You have to get this clear, Christian—the Holy Spirit lives in you. You have power, but not the power of positive thinking. You had that before, and it isn’t enough for living the Christian life.

You have new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead (1:3). You have living hope of getting out of debt because the risen power of Jesus is at work in you. You have living hope of getting free from pornography because the power of the risen Lord Jesus is at work in you. You have living hope of overcoming the power of alcohol in your life because the power of the risen Lord Jesus Christ lives in you. You have living hope of gaining control of your tongue and your temper because the power of the risen Lord Jesus Christ lives in you. God has put you in a position where you can say “No.”

Now Peter says, “Prepare your minds for action (1:13). This week you might be on the web, in a store, or on a sports field. This is the world where God has called you to live out the Christian life. So prepare your mind for action. Be self-controlled.

Do you believe that the Holy Spirit lives in you?
