Dear Pastor Colin,
I have been so incredibly edified by your message on assurance and the “boardroom of the soul.” The Holy Spirit had been working on me the past three months about my divided soul—my mind and heart had been at odds. I had professed faith in Christ, but just like John and Mary, the hypothetical people you described, my soul was not at rest.
Your message on the various components of the soul brought it all together for me, and the Spirit led me to take notes while I listened to it. I keep coming back to your teaching, and it keeps going deeper into me so I can fully understand what Jesus meant and means when he says, “Come to me, all who are weary and heavy laden, and you will find rest for your souls. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
I re-read my notes that I took from your sermon and have been asking for the Spirit’s help in guiding me to “come to Jesus.” The Spirit has also led me to Isaiah 30:15, “In returning and rest you will be saved; in quietness and trust shall be your strength.” I love your firm but ever so gentle way of preaching. I believe I might have heard this message a few years ago, but my soul wasn’t ready for it. I hope God blesses you eternally for your thoughtful approach to the Word and also for your fatherly care for those of us who are struggling with assurance. You indeed used your God-given imagination and reasoning to present to us the meaning of Jesus’ words about coming to him. I hope the Lord continues to multiply the seeds you are sowing.
Your sister in Christ,
