The Power in the Blood of Jesus Christ

French philosopher Voltaire and American President John Adams are famous for their criticisms of Christianity because they thought it was a “bloody religion,” with all its wars, its frequent mention of blood, and the bloody death of its founder, Jesus Christ.

What is it about blood, which we normally think of as grotesque, that has caused Christians in every generation to actually celebrate it?  Here is just a sampling of the hymns and songs that have been written throughout the ages about the blood of Christ:

  • Nothing But the Blood
  • Are You Washed in the Blood?
  • Oh, the Blood of Jesus
  • Power In the Blood

Here are six things from the Bible that help us to see why the blood of Jesus holds such a special place in the hearts of believers:

1. We gain bold access to God in worship and prayer

The Bible is clear that every person is alienated and separated from God because of our sin (Colossians 1:21).  That means even the best of us are actually unable to approach God to offer worship or prayer.  Because of our sins, we remain at a distance from Him.

But the Bible tells Christians to come boldly into God’s presence, “We have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus” (Hebrews 10:19). If you are a Christian today, you can have boldness and confidence as you approach God with your prayers and your worship, because you are no longer far away from God, “Now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been made near by the blood of Christ(Ephesians 2:13).

It is because of the blood of Jesus Christ that we have the great privilege of pouring our hearts out to God (Psalm 62:8) casting our cares on Him (1 Peter 5:7) and praying any time and any place in the power of the Spirit (Ephesians 6:18).  Does your prayer life reflect the kind of relationship you have with God through the blood of His Son?

2. Forgiveness of sin

In addition to being able to enter into God’s presence through the blood of Christ, we are also forgiven of our sins.  Ephesians 1:7 says that, “In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace.”  Because of Christ’s shed blood, God is able to forgive us for our sins and give the punishment that we deserved to Christ.

Christ had a special way of explaining this to his disciples during the Last Supper, which also was the Passover meal celebration.

He said, “For this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins” (Matthew 26:28).  He was telling His disciples that just as the blood of the lamb delivered the Hebrews from the night of terrors in Egypt, so Christ’s own blood would deliver the people who were covered by it from the judgment of God on the last day.

This truth is expressed beautifully in the hymn, “Nothing But the Blood”

What can wash away my sin?

Nothing but the blood of Jesus;

What can make me whole again?

Nothing but the blood of Jesus.

Oh! Precious is the flow

That makes me white as snow;

No other fount I know,

Nothing but the blood of Jesus…

Take joy, Christian, that Christ has cleansed you from your sin with his blood!

3. Consciences cleansed

Through the blood of Christ, Christians receive the cleansing of their consciences.  Hebrews 9:14 says, “…how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without blemish to God, purify our conscience from dead works to serve the living God.”

This is an amazing promise! Christ cleansing our consciences from acts that lead to death! How does He do it? By the blood of Christ, because on the cross He offered Himself unblemished to God! He offered Himself—His unblemished, perfect life—as a sacrifice to God for us on account of our sins. Therefore, He alone is able to cleanse our consciences through His blood.

Even though all of our minds have been corrupted by sin and seared as with a hot iron (1 Timothy 4:2), Christ can cleanse our consciences.  We are able to live right lives and think right thoughts once again in Christ.  This is great news for those who are burdened by a sinful past and corrupted consciences.

4. We are progressively cleansed from more and more sin

Not only are we forgiven from sin, but we are also sanctified through the blood of Christ.  Hebrews 13:12 tells us that “Jesus also suffered…in order to sanctify the people through his own blood” (Hebrews 13:12).  God is calling his people be holy as He is, which is one of the reasons Jesus suffered.  Without holiness, no one will see the Lord (Hebrews 12:14).

After we are forgiven of our sins and able to enter into a new relationship with God, it makes sense that God wants us to be in a new relationship with the sin that previously condemned us as well.  That is why he gives us the power, through the blood of His Son, to be cleansed from our sinful behaviors.

5. We are able to conquer the accuser of the brethren

Because of Christ’s sacrifice and the pouring out of His blood on our behalf, we can trust in the righteousness of Christ and not our own righteousness when we are accused by our enemy.  Revelation 12:11 says, “And they have conquered him [Satan] by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, for they loved not their lives even unto death.”  As believers, we know that we cannot stand on our own merit or because of our own deeds.  We know that our good deeds are as filthy rags before God (Isaiah 64:6) and that the Christ’s righteousness attributed to us is how we are able to stand up against accusations.

Charles Spurgeon spoke these comforting words:

I know what the devil will say to you.  He will say to you, ‘You are a sinner!’ Tell him you know you are, but that for all that you are justified.  He will tell you of the greatness of your sin.  Tell him of the greatness of Christ’s righteousness.  He will tell you of all your mishaps and your backslidings, of your offences and your wanderings.  Tell him, and tell your own conscience, that you know all that, but that Jesus Christ came to save sinners, and that, although your sin be great, Christ is quite able to put it all away.

6. Rescued out of a sinful way of life

…you were ransomed from the futile ways inherited from your forefathers, not with perishable things such as silver or gold, but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without blemish or spot. (1 Peter 1:18-19)

Being ransomed from futile ways is another benefit Christians have through the blood of Jesus.  We are rescued from a life lived devoid of meaning and are brought into a relationship with God and the ability to live in his will and with purpose.

Compared to the precious blood of Jesus Christ, the most valuable things of this earth (like silver and gold) are reduced to meaningless, perishable things.  That is because the blood of Jesus gives Christians salvation of their souls, forgiveness from sins, access to God, victory over the enemy, and the power to live with a clear conscience, something that the gold and silver items in the Old Testament temple could never do.

His blood is the last card for man; nothing else can save but the blood of Jesus

  • OB

The blood of Jesus the Christ gave humanity the liberation from the grips of the devil. it will never lose its power.

  • His Blood is sufficient for everything I ever have to face

  • RIghtly Divided

Can you help me understand exactly what it means to “plead the blood of Jesus’
How do you plead the blood?
What does pleading the blood do?
Where is “pleading the blood” found in the Bible?
How often do you plead the blood (how long does it last).
what results do you see to know the blood has been successfully pleaded?

    • Christina

When we fall short of God’s purpose/sin in any thing we are to just remember, believe, and trust that Christ’s shedding His blood and subsequently ascending to the Father to sprinkle it on the mercy seat in heaven is sufficient enough at all times to cleanse of those things. Especially when the accuser, the devil wants to bring things back up in your mind and bring in guilt and say that you have not repented. Our response is a plea, our legal defense so to speak. That phrase “pleading the blood” seems to be misused and taken as some “magical” power. His blood was applied as a covenant to us which is applicable and sufficient forever. The only result is assurance of Him having done the work, that He is still sitting there interceding for you when you mess up, and that He will never forsake us in it. It is an eternal work that will never fail us.

1 John 1:9, 2:1-2a If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us [our] sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness…. My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate (lawyer) with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: And he is the propitiation for our sins…

    • FMI

Pleading the blood is a phrase used to express justification in a legal way. A lawyer pleads the case of his client. In the same way only the blood of Jesus is worthy , sinless and acceptable. No fault has been found against Jesus so His blood has enter into heaven. So when things go wrong and you pray you appeal and plead your case like the book of Isaiah said let us plead together.

    • HisSon

Yes! Jesus is there for us and for everything that concerns us. U can plead the blood of Jesus over things for protection and deliverance.

      • Preacher

Can you surport that with Scripture. in the Old Testament it can. But the old has been replaced with the New.So What Does the Word of TRUTH says about it. Not what you think, or what I think. THE WORD OF TRUTH SPEAKS FOR IT SELF.

        • Delene

The OT hasn’t been replaced, Jesus came to fulfill it ,otherwise it would be obsolete and of no significance to us . We are not under the law any more but under Grace….

      • Mark Menda

I chose to disagree. The bible or God is not an author of confusion or disorder, where is written in the bible the the Precious blood of Christ protects things or delivers thing?
As far as protection or deliverance of things is concerned The Bible says clearly that The Angels of the Lord encamp around the rognteous to keep and to deliver him from danger, not the Precious blood of Jesus.

        • caroline

The blood of Jesus which relates to the blood of the lamb in the old Testament when it was used to mark doorposts and lintles was for their protection and deliverance.. So is the living blood of Jesus available as a weapon today because that blood that was shed brought about our salvation and every privilege We have as children of God. It’s the weapon God used to redeem us from the kingdom of darkness into that of His dear son… The blood of Jesus is a weapon, just as the Holy Spirit fire etc.. Or thunder… Apply it with right understanding and mindset and you win… Infact We are already more than conquerors through the love of Christ.. The blood of Jesus.. Amen

    • Mcmoth Milton Manano

Well, I dont really think we can plead the blood of Jesus over things for protection or for whatever purpose. It was spelt and sprinkled once and for all sinners. As believers I think all we have to do is claim anything in Jesus name, Seek for protection and so on but in the name Jesus. Gods working power is in Jesus, Our righteousness is in Jesus, Our healing in Jesus and everything else desirable before both God and Man is in Jesus. In Jesus is contained all these, splitting them would be as though you know better than God himself what works/applies for you. I think ours is to see Jesus as our everything and God’s is to avail all Jesus attributes as he wills to our favor. Otherwise thanks for the above contribution/

      • Ademola

we can apply the blood of Jesus to any

thing and on any situation. the blood of Jesus and the name of jesus is the most powerful weapon in all of creation.countless testimonies abound to what the blood of Jesus has done in deliverance healing protection prosperity salvation and so on. Get the book “The Power Of The Blood” by Mary Baxter. You will have better understanding

        • Mark Menda

You can’t prove it!! I don’t dispute the miracles however you can not prove that they done because of the blood. Popular Heresy!! No matter how popular some statement or declarations may be as long as they lack scriptural backups they fails teachings. They are just a popular heresy!!

          • Oxygen

Sir, I really don’t understand the point you’re trying to make about something having scriptural backups! That there is Power in the Blood of Jesus Christ cannot be disputed. How you use the Blood for protection has more to do with your personal relationship with God The Father, The Son and Holy Spirit. The Indwelling of the Holy Spirit in us is much more powerful than some Bible passages because it’s a direct link to God Himself, who keeps teaching us in all things that are not even written in the Bible. The Holy Spirit is our teacher as you may know, who teaches us into all things truth from God the father. The Pharisees and Sadducee also had Problem with Jesus Christ because He was saying and doing things they did not see in the “Laws” and teachings of Moses. Jesus told them that He was saying and doing things He saw His Father in Heaven do. Our God is a living God. Jesus is alive; not only present in the Bible, but more actively so through the Holy Spirit.
The Blood of Jesus was shed once and for all time for us. We claimed it when we believed in Him. In our daily fight against the power of darkness and against all principalities and power in higher places, we should always plead the Blood of Jesus on ourselves and on all that belong to us, and AGAINST these enemies and evil powers. That’s how to fight the spiritual Warfare.

          • Carlos Resh

u got it write brother,i think this explanation is well put for everyone to understand that we are in a spiritual warfare against principalities and powers of darkness which are working against us on a daily basis we must remember that the devil has his own powers but we belivers by pleading the blood of Jesus christ in our lives everdae we get victory over satan because he cannot stand the blood of Jesus.

God bless you Oxygen. I know it was God our Father who pointed me here but I will say, this is a some response

          • phyllis

What about applying the Blood of Christ over curses?

          • gbrown9146

            You said:
“The Indwelling of the Holy Spirit in us is much more powerful than some Bible passages because it’s a direct link to God Himself, who keeps teaching us in all things that are not even written in the Bible.”
            You just cut the anchor!!!
So you think that your feelings will discern the Spirit of God versus the spirits of deception? You don’t need no Bible scriptures to guide you. Don’t you know satan can appear to be an angel of light? And that our own hearts are deceitful? And that Jesus IS the Word?
Oh, I forgot you wouldn’t know any of that, your so spiritually attuned that you don’t need the Word of God. If Jesus did not speak except what He recieved for the Father, why would the Holy Spirit teach and direct us apart from the Word of God? The Father, Son, Spirit are always in agreement; not creating new doctrine apart from the Word.

          • Oxygen

@gbrown9146: I do understand the point you’re trying to make. However, you seems to take the Bible above any spiritual revelations we might get. I am assuming you’re not seriously being spirit-filled and spirit-led, otherwise you should not see things that way. The Word of God is always supreme, the truth and also Spirit. Without the Holy Spirit’s teaching and revelations, you cannot understand the Bible with your normal human sense and intellect. You might be a great theologian or whatever, without the enablement of the Holy Spirit, that’s just worldly accumulation of knowledge, and the Bible becomes in that sense, just like most other books.
As a true believer and DOER of God’s Word, you should know that as James 4:8 says: “Draw near to God and He will draw near to you”, God will never allow you to be deceived to that point you’re talking about. Why? Because Jesus himself said of the Holy Spirit in John 14:16 “And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever,” As long as you abide in God and in Christ, you’ll never be left alone by God The Holy Spirit. He is our teacher and enabler in our daily work as we journey on and awaits Christ’s second coming. Our own hearts only become deceitful when we entertain too much worldly things in our lives, but the Holy Spirit will always speak to you in a low voice, as long as you continue to feed Him with the Word.

Please, don’t confuse our “feelings” with the leading of the Holy Spirit. These are truly two different things. You must learn and get used to the leading of the Holy Spirit, it’s not automatic and also not our natural way: it something you need to learn anew. Learn to cry to God for new revelations in His Word as a good starting point. Meekness and also the realization that our human intellect rivals sometimes with God’s ways and Will, should bring you nearer to the goal post of being led by the Spirit of God, not by your own “Feelings”.
And you can only fight the spirit of deception if you know how to do what Ephesians 6:11 tells us to do: “Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes”

          • Fred

So tell me why the holy communion still exist and we drink wine as a representation of the blood of Jesus. That’s cleanses from all filthiness. Let’s be careful with our understandin of the word of God

          • Bernadette Nosworthy-Fagan

The communion does not cleanse us, it’s a reminder of what Christ did for us. Died for our sins, redeemed us. Thanks

          • Jerry Bailie

I agree communion is a reminder, a great reminder of what Christ did for us on Clavary’s Cross. No one who partakes of it is confused in any way of what scripture is saying. We are being obedient.

      • harvey nichols

i agree jesus says i am the way and the truth no other way

      • Ojo

Remember this,… and they overcome him by the
blood of the lamb and through the words of their testimonies. Mcmoth?? Relate this to ur so – called facts

        • Mark Menda

Dear Ojo check the scriptures and quote it correctly please! It does not say they overcome rather they overcame, it’s in the past tense. Read and interpret the scripture in it context please! Search the scripture study carefully, they overcame the power of sin through the precious blood of Christ, read from verse one you will understand that the scripture is talking about salvation, strength so on , it has nothing to do with overcoming satan in every battle of life.

          • Grace Taylor

I concur Mark that we have already been redeemed by the precious blood of Christ therefore to live in that knowledge of the grace and freedom is quite different from the works mentality of self the notion that one must still do something to attain this once given gift… almost takes the power away from The Blood sacrifice of Jesus Christ. I believe many of us and like myself have understood that we still have to do something more to gain the ‘finished work’ of Christ…we simply find it far to simple to just accept it…and that’s when we need to search the meaning of grace…and walk in it even if your pre programmed mind tells you otherwise…its liberating to walk in Gods grace…and sets you completly free from a works mentality….it gives back The throne of your heart to the rightful King of your soul…Jesus Christ our Saviour. Be blessed all…as we are indeed all a work in progress in the physical state and trying to all catch up with the spiritual state of our being that has already communed so richly with its creator and Heavenly Father before you were even created in the physical…He knew you.

          • Oxygen

Grace Taylor, I understand your take. Please pay attention to the quality or characteristics of a “Gift”. You wrote nicely, when you said: …once given gift…What do you do with a gift? Do you just dump it and forget it?
I wrote in another answer to someone that we could view it as deposited money in a bank by a multi-Millionaire father, whose children will have to withdraw from time to time. It forms the basics of their wealth. Likewise, the shedding of the Blood of Jesus Christ on the Cross is the basics for our freedom. Nothing is wrong in pleading it every now and again symbolically; it does not mean we are making something new from it or making a different blood, rather we are referencing the work Christ has already done for us. This is simply a revelation knowledge; a spiritual truth, rather than a scriptural fact.

Hello…….Faith=*Obedience* is God’s love language. How did Jesus learn obedience through suffering. Hebrews 5:8
James 1:21-24 21 Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and every expression of evil, and humbly receive the word planted in you, which can save your souls. 22 Be doers of the word, and not hearers only. Otherwise, you are deceiving yourselves. 23 For anyone who hears the word but does not carry it out is like a man/woman who looks at his/her face in a mirror, 24 and after observing himself/herself goes away and immediately forgets what he/she looks like. How? Romans 10:17 Consequently, faith*obedience* comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ. Apply: Sit with God daily and He will teach us all through His Word. John 8:51 Truly, Truly, I say to you, if ANYONE keeps My word he will never see death.

*******all our opinions/responses whether seems good or bad****ALL filthy rags

we come to the God’s table with nothing—It’s God’s love, mercy and grace for each one of His chosen only through His Son: Jesus. They don’t need us; we need Him. WoW! Why would He choose me? I know my sins and myself not good–God changed my heart through His word. I definitely do not deserve His Awesome love for me. Thank you Jesus for taking ALL my sins upon yourself cause You love me. WoW! Amazing.

Our hearts are the issue Jeremiah 17:10 But I, the LORD, search all hearts and examine secret motives. I give all people their due rewards, according to what their actions deserve.
        In CHRIST, susie

Well said. That idea of ‘pleading the Blood’ seems more like magical spells & that is witchcraft not faith in the Son of God. We are to walk in the Spirit not after fleshly desires, using our faith to get our own way.

Yeah.. In day to day live.. we Christians also sins often time.. knowing and unknowingly. The blood of Christ which was shed on Mount Calvary is still the same to cleansed and wipe our sins.. We should plead protection by the blood of Jesus and sealed our whole body- from head to toe every day, and in times of sin we should plead deliverence and cleansing through the blood of Jesus and in his holy Name. Its working… Every christian must experience this…God Bless you all

  • Jim Bob

Where does the bible say “Spilled Blood” in reference to Jesus? To spill denotes an accident. Jesus fulfilled God’s plan in the shedding of His blood, the pouring out of his blood. To make it sound accidental is to say God did not plan on the “spilling” of Jesus blood. Show me in the original language where “spill or spilling ” is used and I will stand corrected.

  • Isaiah

In the old animals were killed every time sacrifices have to take place, in the NT Christ was sacrifice once so we do not have to keep repeating the killing but just to apply. So we can always apply because the killing and the dying has been done.

Yes, we can personalize the Blood and plead it over our minds, souls, bodies and especially over our children as they leave for school each day. Every morning I ask God to saturate my mind with the Blood of Christ so I may think power thoughts that are creative and which edify people. I ask Him to saturate my children and grandchildren with the Blood of Christ so no harm will come to them throughout the day. I also ask God to sweep through my house and outside through my property with the Blood of Christ day and night so we may enjoy His peace and grace.

No, the blood of the Passover lamb was there to cover them, to shield and protect them from what was to come. Just as the blood of Jesus is there to both save us from our sins, but to also protect us from the evil that is all around us.

  • Mark Menda

I’m of the opinion that you can not apply the precious blood of our Lord Jesus Christ on material things. it is unscriptural. No where in scripture you can find evidence to prove or to justify that belief or practice, for the precious blood was shared for covenant , for redemption, for justification, for cleansing, for victory over sin… and all these and more are all for human souls and for his relationship with God. Not to be applied on man made material staffs.
To me it’s sacrilegious to even think of applying the precious Blood of Jesus on material things. It’s a misuse and an abuse of the precious blood of Christ to use anyhow and anywhere.
Also I think it’s a wrong interpretation of scripture or a wrong teaching to say that the precious blood of Christ protects people from satan’s attacks. For the simple fact that the righteous shall be persecuted by satan and his demons. A righteous person is someone who is washed by the blood. Which simply means the presence of the precious blood on a person indicate that the person is righteous and automatically invite for satan attacks. However the precious blood of Christ protects the believer from the wrath of God not from demonic attacks.

    • Bright

Wow! I think we can’t leave the blood of Jesus out in any facet of our Christian lives. I rather think we are under utilizing the blood. It is the blood of redemption that has set us free and therefore should be used to protect and safeguard our freedom. Remember he that the Son sets free is free indeed. The blood of Jesus seals our covenant with God. The blood testifies to both God and Satan that we are now God’s children. We always need to plead the blood of Jesus to remind Satan of who we are in Christ. The fact that the blood of Jesus is precious does not mean other should be used sparingly. Remember the blood is not physical so it’s great to plead the flood over any object be it your food, your life and any situation for protection. Salvation is a package that includes freedom, forgiveness, safety, prosperity, etc and these is accomplished by our Lord Jesus through His death on the cross.
      God bless you.

So true. Most Christians are living for their souls, that is taking the things of God to attempt to make their life better all the while claiming to live for God and filled with the Spirit. Our soul is our personality, the me in me, and we’ll do anything to protect and save it. Save your soul and lose it or lose your soul in Christ and save it. That is our choice and that is why we are called to bare our cross daily. No one likes to suffer, struggle, or resist our desires and impulses. This ‘pleading the blood’ is just another way to shirk our cross. In baptism we are put into Christ and joined with Him in His death, burial and reserection (as you were in your grandfather physcially, you wouldn’t exist today if he had died as a 3yr old, so we are in Jesus spiritually when He was sacrificed on the cross) He took our punishment and His divine Blood cleansed us from our sins and God counts us in Him for atonement, cleansing our conscience, and santification. We are in Christ in God’s eyes. But that’s not the end of His work for us. We are also reserected in Christ. All that was inherited from Adam was crucified, dead, & buried in the Last Adam. So now God can start over with us in the Second Man, Christ Jesus, We are to present our new lives as living sacrifices to serve our Heavenly Father because now we have His Spirit living in us – the Life giving Spirit in Christ Jesus, that old nature was an enemy of God and under the law of sin and death. Now as we were put IN Christ, Christ is now IN us by the Holy Spirit living to please God. God had delt with our sins we committed but now we soon find that the law of sin still exists; He cleansed us from what we’ve done not how does He keep us from falling back? That is where the baring of our cross comes in, every day we make decisions to trust in Jesus and allow the Spirit of God to work in us and lead us, not working to be better but following His commandments. Trials and struggles strengthen our faith as we wait on Him and trust in His work and word. Our faith is not to make our old natures better, our lives are not changed, they are EXCHANGED for the Life of Christ in us. And our faith and blessings are not just for our enjoyment but the build up the Body of Christ. When will we see that only He is worthy of our worship, obedience, our very souls?

For atonement for the Aramaic Sin yes The Precious blood was shared once for all, however for the purpose of sanctification or for purification according to the book of 1John1:9 we are instructed to claim the Precious blood for our daily walk with Christ for our purification after a genuine repentance.

  • Stephen Phinney

I have a great love and appreciation for those who continue to teach the Blood of Jesus – thanks Kevin! My only addition would be, the finished work of the cross makes it finished. From that final moment to today, we claim, or appropriate, what is already True. Our identity in Christ is based on this reality, for example; we are not to ask for forgiveness but claim it after confession. The act of Jesus shedding His blood for the body of Christ was/is to experience, mature in, and communicate effectively
the message of finality of the Cross, which gives us identification with Christ in His death, burial,
resurrection, and ascension. All this is accomplished by the Holy Spirit from within to bear witness only with the Truth – the indwelling Life of Jesus ( .

You are saying in the comments that we cannot plead the Blood of Jesus for protection while your self you mentioned Rev 21:11 which says “And they have conquered him [Satan] by
the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, for they loved
not their lives even unto death.” My question is how could the Blood possibly conquer Satan if it doesn’t have the right to do so since its mission is redemption, and if it did overcame Satan in the pass (past tense) what gives you the right to believe that it will not do it when we ask do so. Why do you think that the blood cannot conquer Satan and his cohort when Christian are in need of Him? Are you saying that the power the blood had to conquer Satan is now inefficient? What makes you to believe what God did yesterday He cannot do it today?

Reading the Bible without the Revelation of the Holy Spirit is dangerous. We should let the Lord lead and reveal his Word to us! and not use our own human intellect.

    • Linda M Hunt

I agree with you Jacob. All through the Bible the prophets received revelation from Christ & wrote it down to share with us in the form of the Bible. Even Jesus said that He only teaches us what He hears from His Father first. In 2 Timothy 3:16 God says in His Word (His love letter to us) (or BasicInstructionsBeforeLeavingEarth) All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: that the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works. The Bible is not just a collection of stories, fables & myths, or merely human ideas about God. It is not a human book. Through the Holy Spirit, God revealed his person & plan to certain believers who wrote down God’s message for His people. (believers).(2 Peter 1:20&21.) This process is known as ” inspiration”. The writers wrote from their own personal historical & cultural contexts. Even though they used their own minds, talents, language & style, they wrote what God wanted them to write. Scripture is completely trustworthy because God was completely in control of it’s writings. Its words are completely authoritative for our faith & lives. The Bible is God-breathed so it is profitable to apply it to our everyday lives. In our zeal for the truth of scripture, we must never forget it’s true purpose–to equip us to do good works. We should not just study God’s Word just to gain knowledge or to prepare us to win arguments. We should study scripture so we know how to apply it in our lives for good works in the world. Our knowledge of God’s Word is not useful unless it strengthens our faith and leads us to do good works, especially because we see Him as our King & our faithful Father who redeems us & provides us all of our needs in Christ Jesus. God says it is not profitable for us to argue doctrine. I’m sorry, but I can’t remember where He quoted that. If anyone knows where it came from in God’s Word, please let me know. We must remember that whatever doctrine we preach, it comes by revelation from God & it lines up with the Word & brings glory & honor to God. I’m not saying that I know everything because there is no man on earth that can ever measure up to God but what I have quoted, I believe is God’s inspired Word. God’s Word should breath life into each of us.

I hear you and understand your points. The Bible is one of the major sources of the word of God to us all, however, not the only source! God can and do speaks directly to us as well through the Holy Spirit. Remember God The father, The Son and The Holy Spirit (Ghost)? We all generally know that God the Father is and always in Heaven. God The Son came to us on earth per Jesus Christ; What about God The Holy Spirit?
Jesus said that when he returns to Heaven to join His father He will send us our helper, the Holy Spirit. In John 16:12-13 He said: “I still have much to tell you, but you cannot yet bear to hear it. However, when the Spirit of truth comes, He will guide you into all truth. For He will not speak on His own, but He will speak what He hears, and He will declare to you what is to come” Even when Jesus was still on earth, He had problems with the Pharisees and Sadducee because he was mostly saying things he heard His father says and does; things that were not written in the “Laws” and works of Moses. So they often accused him of saying rubbish or blasphemy!

Our major problem in this present age is that majority of Christians don’t believe in the Person, nature and move of this Holy Spirit in our lives. Most Christians therefore do not have Him in their hearts; hence they emphasize more on scriptural truths alone, thereby neglecting spiritual revelations and spiritual truths as well. As long as something is not in the bible, it must be false for such Christians, while Jesus Himself is saying in the above single Scripture that he was not going to say everything he had to say. Moreover, even John, the writer of The Gospel John said that not all that Jesus did in his time on earth was written down. In John 21: 25 he says: “There are many more things that Jesus did. If all of them were written down, I suppose not even the world itself would have space for the books that would be written.”

My point is, majority of our Christian followers make the mistake of taking the Bible as the exclusive source of truth about things God said or wants us to know. It’s not quite so; the Holy Spirit links us more directly with God and things pertaining to us NOW in our daily lives; we need to know how reach that level; ask God to open our spiritual eyes to such truths, otherwise we will keep on the endless debate about scriptural proofs and all the likes. Present spiritual revelations and truths with regards to our present age are equally important since the bible does not encompass everything.

Emy i love the way you put it. i will also say that if you have water in a ath tab and fail to apply in on your body will you become automatically clean ? It is true the blood was shed once but must be appropriated in our lives everytime we are faced with spiritual war.

  • Sally Hallman

Everyone wants to be a critic, I honestly respect what you are doing and I am supporting everyone of being a witness to Christ Jesus, we are living in a time where Christ is sorting out all the sheep from the goats, time and time again we are witnessing the closeness of Christ’s return. I personally believe that the arrogance of some people will be the Spiritual destruction of their own. Some people need to wake up and seek the truth all being left behind will be their demise. We all need to have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ now not tomorrow or week from now, I mean NOW.

    • Bolade B.

God richly bless and keep you Sally. I pray that we all will focus on heaven, expecting the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, living in Righteousness and holiness daily. Brethren, time is short.

  • Annmarie Smith

Sounds like Apostasy. However we need to apply the Blood in the Name of Jesus upon everything. We Christians are equip to fight. It’s in the Name of Jesus, the Holy Spirit, the Armor of God, the Blood of Jesus. We can’t bake a cake without the main ingredient flour. Likewise “The Blood of Jesus” is our victory. ‘Any church being the Body forgetting Jesus’ bloodshed is Headless.’ So as the adversary shoots is super fiery arrows I plea, declare and decree the Blood of Jesus upon the enemy. Father for there’s power in the Name of Jesus and nothing but the Blood of Jesus can make me whole.

Ephesian 4 24 and that put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness, means that when we are born again we identical to Jesus and all we have to do is to renew our mind to have all the benefit apply to our body ,like healing etcc God has provided protection not by applying the blood ,but by renewing our mind to the finish work

  • Pastor Nnaemeka Henry

There is no better way to understand this issue than hearing from the horse’s mouth. Jesus himself declared in Matthew 26:28 For this is My blood of the New Covenant which concerning many is being poured out for remission of sins. (LITV). It is clear from this Scripture that the main essence of the blood of Jesus Christ is THE REMISSION OF SINS. That many Christians have resorted to pleading the blood of Christ over situations does not make it right. Remission of sins is obtained just once. After this once in a lifetime experience, the christian stands qualified for the forgiveness of his/her sins. Forgiveness of sins is the right of Christians, and Christians alone. A non-christian i unqualified for forgiveness until the original sins are remitted.
Once sins are remitted, the person who was at that time ” without Christ, alienated from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers of the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world” (Eph 2:12) becomes a child of the promise and new covenant as observed by Paul when he declared that “but now, in Christ Jesus you who then were afar off, came to be near by the blood of Christ.” (Eph 2:13)
Now in Christ, the christian is predisposed to many benefits among which is PRAYING IN THE NAME OF JESUS CHRIST. The bible is explicit that only prayers said in the name of Jesus Christ will receive answers from God. in John 16:23 – 24, Christ himself said “And in that day you will ask Me nothing. Truly, truly, I say to you, Whatever you shall ask the Father in My name, He will give you. Until now you asked nothing in My name; ask, and you will receive, so that your joy may be full.” Also in John 14:13 – 14 It was abundantly made clear that “whatever you may ask in My Name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
If you ask anything in My Name, I will do it.” The reason for this is easy to see. In Proverbs 18:10, the Bible assures us that ” the name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe.” So the answers to our prayers lie in the name of Jesus Christ because that is what the Bible teaches us. In Phil 2:9 – 10 Paul assures us that because our Lord obeyed God till the end “then God gave Christ the highest place and honored his name above all others. So at the name of Jesus everyone will bow down, those in heaven, on earth, and under the earth.”
PARTAKING IN THE CELEBRATION OF HIS LAST SUPPER. Another right the Christian receives after being washed in the blood of Jesus Christ is that he can boldly and confidently partake in the feast of the slain Lamb. Is this an ordinary celebration? No. Christ himself ordered this? ….do this for a commemoration of me. (Luke 22:19). This is the exclusive preserve of Christians.
WHAT IS THEN THE MEANING OF REV. 12:11? “They triumphed over him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of
their testimony; they did not love their lives so much as to shrink from
Following from the function of the blood of Jesus Christ as enunciated above, it is evident that only the saved can testify to the saving power of Jesus Christ. How does one get saved? By being washed in the blood of Jesus Christ. So to overcome the devil, the first step is to be saved and to be saved one must be washed in the blood. It is only after this that such a person can testify to the gospel of Jesus Christ which “… to them indeed that perish, is foolishness: but to them that are saved, that is, to us, it is the power of God.”
    (1Cor 1:18)
Finally, there so many man-induced practices that go on in the body of Christ now that are not truly scripture based. Yes, they may seem right on the surface but because they lack the major ingredient of faith which is that they must conform with and to the scripture they are ineffective.
Let me end by stating that “neither is there salvation in any other. For there is no other name under heaven given to men, whereby we must be saved.”
    Act 4:12

  • Faan Oosthuizen

    The Scriptures say:
Our sins grieve GOD and the HOLY SPIRIT. Jesus was given over into the hands of sinners and the nations I. e. Into OUR HANDS. He bore OUR sins in His body on the cross. Our insults of God fell on Jesus. JESUS was pierced and crushed BECAUSE OF OUR sins. What we did to the LEAST and THE WORD, we did to Jesus.
It is clear: WE ALL, through our sins, wounded Jesus and spilled His blood. The Holy Spirit pleads us to look up to Him whom we have pierced and to mourn bitterly for HIM. THEN GOD opens the fountain of Jesus’ blood which flows powerfully against sin and unrighteousness, drives out our idols, false prophets and unclean spirits, stops pretence and lies, delivers, washes and cleanses us from ALL sin and does all what you listed above. Without the sorrowful acknowledgement that we shed His blood, there is no forgiveness or deliverance from sin. If righteousness was possible through any other way, Jesus died in vain.

  • gbrown9146

Just wonderfully instructed, thank you. Let us trust in Christ’s work not practicing some unscriptural ritual or magical spell.
And remember this also, the High Priest went into the Holy of Holies once a year to sprinkle the blood on the Mercy Seat and this was done out of sight of the congregation. BECAUSE the blood was for God, He puts the value on it not us. He says that the blood of Christ is enough for all the sins of the world. Our only response is to believe and accept His valuation for our sins, not try to feel it’s worth in our minds, just believe Him at His word.

    God bless my brother

One of the biggest debated questions among Christians is the question , “are we forgiven of ALL sin when we are saved, meaning past present and future or only the past sins?”
I myself can find scripture that leans me one way then scripture that leans me the other.
Can anyone out there help me put this question to rest once and for all?
As of now, I have asked God to tell me but have not received my answer yet.
