The woman bore a son and called his name Samson. Judges 13:24

Imagine watching your children grow up and then your grandchildren, and never knowing what it is like to be free. You would cry out to God and long for some means of deliverance.

God answered the prayers of His people in the birth of Samson. He was a gift from God. His parents had not been able to have children, but then later in life Samson’s mother found out she was pregnant.

Before we come to his story, there is something you need to know about Samson.

Samson was a believer. Hebrews specifically tells us about “Gideon, Barak, Samson, …David, Samuel and the prophets, who through faith…” (11:32, NIV) did many things. That means we should expect to see him in heaven. For all his flaws, Samson was a man of faith.

Even before he was born, God made it clear that Samson was to have a special place in God’s purpose. “The boy is to be a Nazarite, set apart to God from birth, and he will begin the deliverance of Israel from the hands of the Philistines” (Judges 13:5).

And the Holy Spirit was at work in him and through him from early in life. “The woman gave birth to a boy and named him Samson. He grew and the Lord blessed him, and the Spirit of the Lord began to stir him” (Judges 13:24).

Would you consider yourself someone who has many flaws, but is still a man or a woman of faith?
