Long life is in her right hand… Proverbs 3:16

If you eat a proper diet, you will enjoy better health than if you live on junk food. That doesn’t mean that if you eat vegetables and tomatoes you will never have cancer. But it is generally true that a good diet and proper exercise will bring better health.

The same principle that applies to your body also applies to your soul. Peter says: “Whoever desires to love life and see good days, let him keep his tongue from evil and his lips from speaking deceit; let him turn away from evil and do good; let him seek peace and pursue it” (1 Pet. 3:10-11).

The principle is simple: There is a healthy way to live and an unhealthy way to live. Wisdom will show you how to live a healthy life. If you want to be healthier, study the book of Proverbs. You will gain wisdom from the Word as you walk with Christ in the power of the Holy Spirit.

“Long life is in her right hand; in her left hand are riches and honor” (Prov. 3:16). Remember, this is a proverb not a promise. This is the normal pattern that prevails in this world. This proverb is not telling us, “If you give money to God, He will make you rich.” But would it surprise you that when a person honors God with their money, God often trusts them with more? Why would He trust you with more if you kept what He already gave you for yourself?

Matthew Henry says, “Those who do good with what they have shall have more to do good with.” Would you like God to trust you with more? Study the book of Proverbs. You will gain wisdom from the Word as you walk with Christ in the power of the Holy Spirit.

The Proverbs are wisdom for life. What one proverb sticks out in your mind as applicable to what you are facing today?
