The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want… he restores my soul. Psalm 23:1, 3

You can’t restore yourself any more than you can save yourself. This is something that God does. He restores my soul!

Go to the Lord in your worst frame of mind. Don’t wait until you are better. Satan’s argument is that you can’t go to God with a cold heart. Why not? If you cannot come as you are, how will you ever come?

Christ does not say, “Get yourself a warm heart and then come to me.” He says, “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest,” (Mat. 11:28). Come as you are. This is the testimony of the saints through the centuries.

Come you weary, heavy laden,
Bruised and ruined by the fall
If you wait until you’re better
you will never come at all.
(Joseph Hart 1712-68)

I heard the voice of Jesus say, ‘Come unto me and rest:
Lay down, O weary one, lay down your head upon my breast.’
I came to Jesus as I was, weary and worn and sad
I found in Him a resting place and He has made me glad.
I heard the voice of Jesus say, ‘Behold I freely give:
The living water, thirsty one, stoop down and drink and live!’
I came to Jesus and I drank of that life-giving stream
My thirst was quenched, my soul revived, and now I live in Him.
(Horatius Bonar 1808-89)

What are you waiting for?
