One day, when he [Joseph] went into the house to do his work and none of the men of the house was there in the house, she [Potiphar’s wife] caught him by his garment, saying, “Lie with me.” But he left his garment in her hand and fled and got out of the house. Genesis 39:11-12

What will be the effect of your faithfulness on your son, your daughter, your friend, or your coworker? How will God weave this strand of your faithfulness into the tapestry of His gracious work in the lives of others?

One of the joys of heaven will be to see the fruit that comes from the tough battles with temptation that you have fought in your life, and for Christ to say to you, “Do you remember that time you fought and overcame that temptation in the hotel? When you said, ‘I am the Lord’s servant. How can I do this wicked thing and sin against God?’” And by God’s grace you prevailed. What you didn’t know was that if you had given in, a whole different series of events would have transpired. But you stood strong, and God has and will use that.

Joseph could not possibly have imagined how God would use his faithfulness. Through the faithfulness of Joseph, he ended up in prison. Through being in prison, he met Pharaoh’s cupbearer. Through the cupbearer, Joseph was introduced to Pharaoh. Through Pharaoh, Joseph became the wise prime minister who provided food for his people. Through the food he supplied, Judah and the other brothers were rescued from a famine. Through the line of Judah, Jesus Christ was born into the world. And through Jesus Christ, a great company of people will be gathered forever with great joy in the presence of God!

Have you thought at all about the chain of events that could come from your own faithfulness to God in a specific temptation that you are facing?
