You also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. 1 Peter 2:5
The old temple is gone. Nobody is offering the Old Testament sacrifices any more. There is no place for that because Jesus has offered the sacrifice for sin once and for all.
“Day after day every priest stands and performs his religious duties; again and again he offers the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. But when this priest [Christ] had offered for all time one sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God” (Heb. 10:11-12). There were no chairs in the temple – the priests stood and performed their duties. They never sat down because their work of offering sacrifices was never finished.
Now there are no more animal sacrifices, but Peter says that God is making you into a priesthood offering spiritual sacrifices—praise, gratitude, service, giving, singing, sharing, acts of kindness, deeds of mercy. Anything that is offered as service to God in the name of Jesus Christ is a spiritual sacrifice acceptable to God. God will accept what you offer through Jesus Christ.
